We’re building our next mid-core mobile game at Zynga!

In honor of the month of November, I’m proud to share an exciting update. The November Software team and I joined forces with Zynga a few months ago, and we’ve been busy working on a new mid-core mobile game.

In January 2011, we formed November Software to bring console gaming experiences to mobile by using our expertise from working at LucasArts on games like Star Wars: The Force Unleashed 1 and 2. The first step we took towards this goal was to build our own cross-platform 3D engine from the ground up. We focused on delivering high-quality 60 fps capability on mobile, fast workflows, and on-demand content streaming. After we created our homegrown tech, we went through several game concepts before rallying around a new take on action combat for mobile, code-named (at the time) Golden Arrow.

As we were creating the initial specs for our game, Zynga caught our attention with its insights and passion for improving the experience of our game and their strengths in social and free-to-play games. Speaking with the folks at Zynga, we were immediately blown away with the conviction and energy they had about making kick-ass mobile games that leave a strong, memorable impression on players. We realized we could accelerate game development by combining our team’s expertise building blockbuster console games and Zynga’s strength in building social games on a massive scale.

Additionally, working with the original team from Mafia Wars – Justin Cinicolo, Jon-Paul Dumont and others – has been eye-opening for us. We are constantly learning and incorporating their knowledge of what makes mid-core gaming truly fun and what it takes to build a social game at scale.

But it’s not just about fun. When we talk about mid-core games, we’re really talking about making a deep game experience more accessible. We know that players, like us, love a good action combat game, so we want to push the limits on social and mobile games, and at the same time create an experience that fits around their schedule.

As for our game, we don’t have a lot more details to share just yet but have one new change to announce. The project has a new name: Battlestone.
